The DIY Bride

Are you a bride wanting to do your own flowers? Well this option is for you. From October through to July, Farmgirl Flowers offers buckets of seasonal blooms for do-it-yourself designs for weddings and special events. We prune our roses in July, therefore rose stock is limited for July, August, and September. Each bucket contains a seasonal mix of fresh-cut bouquet ingredients, including focal flowers and foliage.

Bulk flowers are sold in buckets of 60-70 stems @ R500 per bucket. Minimum orders to the value of R2000 apply.

DIY Wedding Planning

Do you like the idea of designing and doing your own floral arrangements for your wedding or special event?

Buying bulk flowers by the bucket from Farmgirl Flowers can be a budget friendly option for brides (or family and friends) who have the time and talent to create their own designs. Before you decide, we encourage you to consider the following questions:

Do you have enough time?

The week of your wedding can be a hectic time for many couples, and it’s easy to underestimate the time you’ll need to complete your floral designs from flower pickup and preparation to final setup and placements at your event. Make sure you have sufficient time and help to complete the tasks at hand.

Do you have enough people to put together the arrangements?

Floral design for weddings isn’t something you’ll want to tackle alone…especially beginners. We typically have a team of three experienced designers working on wedding flowers for 2-3 days prior to weddings.

Do you have workspace to do the design work?

Floral design is messy work, you’ll need a space that is cool, has access to water and where it won’t matter if the space gets wet and dirty from all the cut leaves and stems. Remember to get a few more hands to clean up as you work.

Do you have the tools you will need?

You’ll need heavy-duty clippers / garden secateurs, oasis, vases, trays, wire and more.

If you have answered yes to all these questions then DIY designs with fresh, local, seasonal flowers
from Farmgirl Flowers can be a great option for you!

FAQ

How do I order bulk flowers?

Please complete our contact form by indicating your interest in bulk flowers. We will confirm availability for your date. Once confirmed, we ask for a 50% deposit on your order. The balance is due on receipt of your flowers.

How many stems come in a bucket?

The number of stems will vary and will depend on what the varieties are that are in bloom at that time. We estimate that the buckets will have approximately 60-80 stems.

How many arrangements can be made with each bucket?

Well that will depend on your design and your vases. As a reference, you could do 5-7 quart size mason jars depending on how full and lush you make them.

Can I request specific colours?

Our bulk flower offering and special pricing is for mixed colours only. If you have a specific colour palette you’d like us to stick to, we will do our best to accommodate your request (for example, no oranges or reds) but due to our small scale and our other event design work, we cannot supply colour-specific buckets.

Can I request specific flowers in my buckets?

If you have a particular favourite we will do our best to accommodate you, but our bulk flowers are purely seasonal and reflect what is in bloom at that time. Some premium flowers will likely wind up in your bucket, but specific flowers should be ordered by the stem or by the bunch (10 stems per bunch).

Can I order smaller quantities of specific flowers separately?
We can sell flowers to you by the stem or by the bunch. Here are some price ranges for some of our premium flowers (priced per stem):
  • David Austin Roses –R 17.50
  • Tunnel Roses – R10
  • Spray Roses –R12.50
  • Heritage Roses – R8
  • Lisianthus – R 7.50
  • Sunflowers – R 10
Availability of these flowers varies week to week throughout our growing season.
How long will the flowers last?

It depends on the variety and the way that you treat them, but most of our blooms last between 7-14 days.

Do the flowers need to be refrigerated?

It is recommended but not required. If you don’t have access to a large coldroom, store them in a cool room with an air conditioner on, out of direct sunlight and away from food and pets. Be aware of the heat factor in our South African summers.

When can I pick up my bulk flowers?

For Saturday weddings, most clients pick up off the farm on Thursday mornings, but with enough advanced notice, we can accommodate your schedule. NOTE: Flowers should be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle such as a van or large SUV that has seats that fold down flat. Flowers CANNOT be transported in the back of vans or trucks! If you don’t have access to a large air-conditioned vehicle, delivery can be arranged with at least two weeks’ notice. Delivery fees vary depending on the distance.

Should I bring my own buckets?

Yes please bring your own buckets.
